NEET 2024 Eligibility Criteria - Updated Guide
Age Limit
To be eligible for the NEET 2024 exam, a candidate must have completed 17 years of age as of December 31, 2024. There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for the NEET exam.
Educational Qualification
Candidates who have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as mandatory subjects are eligible to appear for the NEET 2024 exam.
Minimum Percentage Required
General category candidates must score a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying exam, while SC/ST/OBC candidates must score a minimum of 40% marks to be eligible for the NEET exam. Candidates who belong to the PwD (Persons with Disability) category must score a minimum of 45% marks to be eligible for the NEET exam.
Nationality
Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals are eligible to appear for the NEET 2024 exam. However, candidates who are foreign nationals must check the eligibility criteria of the respective institutions where they want to apply.
Other Eligibility Criteria
Apart from the age limit, educational qualifications, minimum percentage required, and nationality criteria, there are a few other essential eligibility criteria that candidates must fulfill to appear for the NEET 2024 exam. These include:
- Number of Attempts: The number of attempts for the NEET exam has been removed, and candidates can now appear for the exam an unlimited number of times.
- Eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats:To be eligible for the 15% All India Quota seats, candidates must fulfill the following criteria:
- Candidates must have studied in a recognized school in India for at least two years before the academic session of the NEET exam.
- Candidates who are not Indian nationals but have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a school in India are also eligible for the 15% All India Quota seats.
It is essential for candidates to fulfill all the eligibility criteria mentioned above to appear for the NEET 2024 exam. Candidates who fail to meet any of the eligibility criteria will not be allowed to appear for the exam, and their candidature will be canceled.
